"Ó—i—ó—ai" honors the Portuguese cultural tradition, that goes from generation to generation. Based on my personal experiences, from someone who grew up in a small village in rural Portugal, I wanted to honor music — which is essential in my life — and everything that involves all the melodies that pass from parents to their children, from brothers to sisters, from grandparents to grandchildren. It can start with a dance in the kitchen, listening to the radio, and grow to something bigger, like wanting to learn a musical instrument and being part of a local musical group. There's always room for music, even on the darkest days, and for those who want to dance and sing.
